second...to shrink the definition of the data mining like that is completley unfair ... "Data mining is the concept of mining through punch of data to extract, predict, categorize, relate" acording to the field of usage and the problem of concern...
and the miner has to decide which tool to mine with...
sure..the basic point in data mining is "relating the unit to its genotype or pattern according to its phenotype or features",which is a basic tool to mine but not enough alone.
